What to know about health insurance in Illinois
Illinois has transitioned to its own state-based marketplace, Get Covered Illinois, after previously using HealthCare.gov. Illinois has expanded Medicaid through HealthChoice Illinois. Illinois also has a Medigap birthday rule: existing Medigap enrollees ages 65 to 75 get a 45-day window starting on their birthday each year to switch to a plan with equal or lesser benefits from their current insurer or one of its affiliates without medical underwriting.
Illinois residents buy individual and family plans through Get Covered Illinois, the state's own marketplace. Open enrollment runs November 1 through January 15. Illinois has expanded Medicaid, so adults with lower incomes may qualify for free or low-cost coverage year-round. A marketplace-certified agent enrolls you in the same plans at the same price and checks your subsidy estimate.

Can I get help if I missed open enrollment?
