What to know about Medicare in Maine
Maine runs its own marketplace, CoverME.gov, and has expanded Medicaid through MaineCare. Maine has strong Medigap consumer protections: every insurer must offer Plan A on a guaranteed-issue basis for one month each year, and people who have kept Medigap coverage without a gap of more than 90 days can switch at any time to a plan with the same or lesser benefits from any insurer without medical underwriting. Medicare beneficiaries can compare Medigap, Part D, and Medicare Advantage options with a licensed Maine agent.
Medicare is federal, so enrollment windows are the same in every state: the Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, and Medicare Advantage members can make one change between January 1 and March 31.
